Challenging conventional ideas about success, education, and housing insecurity, the film captures her ongoing journey of resilience, uncertainty, and determination, revealing the human story behind the degrees, the dreams, and the struggle for a place to call home.

Defined by the Beat is a short documentary centered on an El Paso musician reflecting on what it takes to keep playing music over the years. Through stories about performing live, struggling through setbacks, and building relationships through music, the piece focuses on how music becomes part of a person’s identity and daily life.
